But the only practical implementation we see is the White Legs deciding to exterminate another tribe.

Oh, and apparently, Caesar put an end to inter-tribal conflict in the east. And their old man of a God-King's idea of a pitch is to give a delusional rant about "Hegelian Dialectics." Said God-King has made his new society so dependent on himself that it appears set to implode as soon as he kicks the bucket. What he describes is a life of fear under a brutal dictatorship, yet the tone seems to suggest it made them a viable option for the Mojave residents.

Well, Sawyer has provided some quotes online that describe life under the legion. They poisoned Searchlight, razed Nipton, butchered Nelson. They offer subjugation, rape, and enslavement to "most of the people in New Vegas" (quoth the ending slides). And they're ineffectual, apparently, because they're trying to take on multiple raider groups (including the Fiends) and the Legion at the same time they're trying to develop the Mojave, even as the Divide has been nuked? Sounds almost like a testament to their ability, especially given that they have no trouble making everything better forever once the Courier gets rid of the Legion.Īnd as an "alternative" to the NCR, we have Caesar's Legion, the aforementioned army of mass-murdering rapist slavers. That's par for the course with pretty much every government ever. What flaws does the NCR have? Well, they're rather corrupt. In short, they are shown to be a well-functioning organization that heavily invests in the areas they hold and has significantly improved the lives of the communities in the Mojave in their short time there. Of course, they also benefit from it, but so do the people of New Vegas. Oh, and they also happen to be holding off that army of mass-murdering rapist slavers on the other side of the river. On one side, we have the New California Republic, who built the sharecropper farms, the Lake Mead pipe that supplies much of New Vegas's water, brought along the Followers of the Apocalypse, established trade routes with a city that has little to offer but gambling and squatters, rebuild Hoover Dam and Helios One and provide electricity to the Mojave, offer protection against the Fiends, etc. While it's a good game in many respects, it is severely undercut by the absurdly black-and-white choice between the NCR and the Legion. I've been playing through New Vegas again.
